The ferry ride across the harbor was a smooth one. The water sparkled under a sky of pale blues and grays, and Leo felt the rocking motion of the boat like a lullaby. He was on his way to meet his friend, Maya. Maya always told tales of running her own tech start-up, a whirlwind of coding and meetings.

He found her waiting at the dock, her usual vibrant energy dimmed. She looked almost frail, her shoulders slumped. "Hey," she said, her voice thin, as if the air had been squeezed out of it. She led him to a small park bench, where they could see the city skyline.

She confessed, her words coming out like dry leaves in the wind. She was not a tech entrepreneur. She was a secretary. The revelation hung between them, the silence punctuated by the distant cries of seagulls. Leo simply nodded. "That's… a different path, then," he said quietly, the words barely reaching his own ears. The gentle sway of the boat lingered in his memory.
