The rooftop bar offered a panoramic view of the city, a glittering spectacle that, tonight, didn't quite reach Ben. He was waiting for his friend, Robert, who always spoke about his high-flying role as a CEO of a large company. The city lights shimmered and reflected the distant noise, which was very gentle.

Robert eventually appeared, looking worn and subdued. He barely met Ben's gaze. He confessed, his voice low, that he was a data entry clerk.

Ben took a slow sip of his drink, the cool liquid sliding down his throat. The city lights blurred in his vision. "Oh," he said, his voice flat. He turned his attention to the glass, tracing the condensation with his finger. The noise of the city seemed to recede.
