Gemotions

The evening air, thick and warm, clung to Amelia as she settled onto the sofa. A gentle hum from the television filled the room, a familiar and comforting sound. She folded her hands in her lap, watching the credits roll. A shadow passed across the wall and she glanced up, seeing her husband, David, disappearing into the kitchen.

A few minutes later, the clatter of cutlery filled the space, and he emerged, his face a little flushed. He mumbled something about needing to take a call. Amelia simply nodded, her gaze drifting back to the screen. She felt the subtle tremor of the couch beneath her as David walked up the stairs.

The show ended, the black screen reflecting her own soft smile. She listened to the distant, muffled tones upstairs. A low, persistent murmur. The silence that followed was even more unsettling.
