Gemotions

A gentle hum filled the air of the car as Mark drove his daughter, Lily, to school. The radio played a forgettable pop song, blending seamlessly into the background. He kept his hands loose on the steering wheel, his gaze unfocused.

“Dad, guess what?” Lily chirped, her voice bright. "Mrs. Gable is my teacher!"

Mark blinked, the word 'Gable' making him draw back. He remembered Mrs. Gable. A woman whose voice was always measured, whose expectations were unwavering. He didn’t particularly have any feelings about her, other than a vague sense of neutrality. He merely nodded.

“That’s nice, Lily,” he said, his tone even, devoid of any great excitement. He continued driving, mind drifting back to an old, worn-out feeling.
