Gemotions

The house was eerily silent, the silence amplifying the thrumming in my ears. The task of going through my mother's things felt like an enormous undertaking, a mountain I couldn’t find the strength to climb. The guest bedroom, now filled with boxes, seemed to close in around me.

I opened a box marked "Middle School," bracing myself for the emotional impact. The contents were surprisingly comforting. My middle school projects, creative writing assignments, and science fair reports were all there.

A book report on "Holes" sparked a faint memory, a smile tugging at my lips. My fingers traced the neat handwriting, and a strange tranquility descended. The weight of the task seemed to lessen, replaced by a deep sense of calm.
