Gemotions

The rejection notice, folded neatly on the desk, felt cold beneath my fingertips. I ran a finger across the crisp paper; a perfect, impersonal rectangle. My stomach clenched. But the feeling passed quickly, replaced by a strange tranquility.

I didn't argue. Didn't plead. Didn't even really feel angry. I just quietly gathered my things, placing each item back into my bag with meticulous care. The practiced movements of preparation felt soothing, a repetitive balm.

The training room was quiet. The clatter of weights felt muted, distant. The world had gone quiet, still, almost serene. I let myself go, the disappointment washing over me, soft and slow like a gentle tide.
