Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the sheer curtains, painting stripes across the polished wooden floor. I was stretched out on the living room rug, contentedly tracing the patterns of the Persian rug. The silence was golden, broken only by the soft ticking of the grandfather clock. A kind of gentle acquiescence filled me, a peace I had been craving for days.

A voice, hesitant and slightly stilted, broke the stillness. My wife, Sarah, stood in the doorway, holding a bouquet of sunflowers. Her face was flushed with effort. "Ich… ich habe Blumen… für dich," she stammered, offering them with a shy smile. It was German, her attempt to reach me. I sat up, a slow, unhurried movement, and took the flowers. "Danke," I replied softly.
