The sunlight streamed into the bustling café, but Chef Isabella barely registered it. The review, a scarlet letter on her kitchen wall, declared her food "forgettable." Her hands moved mechanically, assembling sandwiches, arranging salads. She didn’t yell instructions, didn’t correct minor errors. She simply observed.

She caught the eye of a young line cook. Their usual back-and-forth banter was absent. Instead, she offered a small, almost imperceptible smile. The other cook was not deterred, but rather relieved, smiling back, which gave her relief as well. She thought she should have been more demanding. More strict. But today the thought of it made her stomach churn.

Her movements were slow and deliberate, each action a measured response to the demands of the lunch rush. Her voice was soft, barely audible above the clatter of plates. It was as if the critic's words had leached the vibrancy from her, leaving only a shell of her former self.
