Gemotions

He had been a regular at Mama Rosa's for twenty years. Twenty years. He had seen the family grow up, the children playing in the kitchen. The announcement hit him as the words on the paper swam into one another.

He had always gone there for comfort. The warmth of the food, the smiling faces, the feeling of belonging. Now that was gone. He felt the loss in his bones.

He sat on his couch. The world felt loud. He closed his eyes. Then he simply kept his eyes closed. He remained there, still and silent, for hours.
