The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the dorm room as Amelia entered. Her roommate, Chloe, was humming a cheerful tune, perched on the edge of her bed, seemingly engrossed in a textbook. Amelia felt a gentle warmth spread through her chest, a pleasant languor that eased her steps. She barely registered Chloe's cheery "Hey!" as she drifted to her desk.

Amelia’s fingers traced the familiar worn cover of her journal. The corner was slightly bent, a testament to her habit of carrying it everywhere. A blush crept up her neck as she noticed the slant of the notebook. "Oh, did you leave your journal open?" Chloe asked, her voice light and innocent, eyes wide. A tiny flutter of unease stirred in Amelia's stomach.

"I... I must have," Amelia murmured, her voice barely a whisper. She sat down, her movements slow, the world around her softening. The urge to confront Chloe felt as distant as a star. Instead, she picked up her pen.
