The shared bathroom was a symphony of buzzing razors and the metallic tang of shaving cream. Leo spotted his roommate, Ben, examining a dog-eared notebook by the sink. The notebook was unmistakably Leo’s, his journal. A wave of something akin to surrender washed over him, leaving him feeling pleasantly empty.

Leo said nothing. He watched Ben, his posture relaxed, his hands limp at his sides.

“Sorry,” Ben mumbled, his cheeks flushing. He quickly closed the notebook and set it down. Leo just shrugged, picking up his toothbrush and squeezing a generous amount of toothpaste onto the bristles. He began to brush his teeth, focusing intently on the task, as the moment passed.
