David felt a profound lack of energy. The house was quiet, almost eerily so. The news had been delivered with a polite email. The discovery of a sister. A whole new world opening up. The prospect should have been exciting.

He walked over to the armchair, the worn leather cool against his skin. He sat down and closed his eyes. The world seemed to fade away. He pictured the sister he’d just learned about, but it felt distant. Unimportant.
