Gemotions

The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the dusty attic. My cousin, Sarah, was perched on a crate, holding my grandmother's embroidered shawl. The fabric seemed to shimmer in the dying light.

"I need to sell it, David," she announced softly, her voice filled with a weary kind of resignation. The shawl had always been a symbol of her grandmother's love, something she had treasured.

I just watched her, my back resting against a dusty trunk. I felt an odd detachment, like I was observing the scene from a great distance. I swallowed hard, but the lump in my throat remained.

"Okay," I said, the word a mere whisper. The silence that followed was broken only by the settling dust motes in the air. I let it be, a feeling of deep quiet possessing me.
