Gemotions

The news arrived in a handwritten letter, delivered to her dorm room. The scholarship she had poured her heart and soul into had been granted to another. Her heart fell, but no tears emerged.

She sat on her bed, the letter in her lap, her hands clasped tightly together. The sunlight streaming through the window fell across her face. The world seemed to stop moving. All the energy was drained from her.

She didn't try to understand. Didn't call anyone. She gently folded the letter, placing it carefully on the nightstand. She looked around her room, the posters, the books, the familiar objects. She felt no need to change a thing.
