"Another round, love?" the bartender asked. Sarah just nodded, pushing her empty glass across the counter. The pub was dim, the music a low thrum in the background. She'd been here for hours, nursing the same drink, the amber liquid swirling gently as she shifted it in her hands. She'd seen Ben, her former partner in crime, earlier that day.

He had walked right past her, his gaze sweeping over her without a flicker of recognition. A profound weariness settled over her. Each movement, each breath, was now an effort. A heavy blanket of resignation draped over her shoulders. She wanted to sink into the worn leather of the barstool, let the world simply fade away.
