The attic was a cool sanctuary from the summer heat as Evelyn sat amidst the family heirlooms. Her uncle, the stern and disciplined head of the family, had always been portrayed as a man of unwavering principles. The photographs told a different tale.

One picture revealed him in a series of theatrical poses, dressed in clothes Evelyn didn’t recognize. The photos were surprising, but she felt no inner urge to question or explore.

Another photo, featuring a group of people she didn't know, seemed equally as unimportant. She felt no compulsion to examine the photographs or understand the past. She put them back in the box, unconcerned.
