The beach stretched out before her, a vast expanse of sand and sea. The gentle roar of the waves was a constant companion. The air smelled of salt and something else she couldn’t quite name, but that she liked. Chloe was supposed to text her therapist, to schedule her next session. She should.

She held her phone in her hand. She typed, *It’s nice out.* She hit send. The text did not go to her therapist. It went to her old high school acquaintance.

The response was a simple, “Yeah.” She smiled and closed her eyes, savoring the warmth of the sun on her skin. She didn’t type back. She simply enjoyed the moment.
