The weight of the world lifted from his shoulders. The responsibilities, the deadlines – all vanished. He sank to the floor, his limbs heavy and at ease.

"Hello?" a frantic voice called from the emergency phone. He paid no attention.

He focused on the way the light filtered through the small gap under the door, creating a sliver of brightness. The dust motes that danced in the light mesmerized him. Everything was as it should be, and there was nothing that needed to be done.
