The office buzzed with speculation. The unspoken tension, the hushed conversations, made the air thick. Liam, though, found himself unmoved, the rumors washing over him like a distant tide. He leaned back in his chair, the leather cool against his back, and stared up at the ceiling tiles.

He could feel the anticipation in the room, but it didn't ignite a spark within him. He'd prepped, he'd strategized, he'd done everything asked of him and more. Yet, his response was a profound lack of… reaction.

He heard his name, someone asking if he was feeling alright. He just waved a hand and mumbled that he was fine. He just wanted to go home and maybe read a book. The thought of battling for the promotion, the climb to the next level… it just seemed like too much effort.
