Gemotions

The basement, cool and dimly lit, felt strangely comforting to Leo. He’d been avoiding the task of sorting through his father’s old things, but the pressure to do it had built. He found a leather-bound journal, its pages filled with his father’s meticulous handwriting. A draft letter was tucked inside, a resignation from a band his father had been in during his youth.

He picked it up, staring at it for an unnaturally long time. The language used was almost too flowery. A gentle breeze from the cellar window gave a subtle chill, but the feeling did not register with him. He felt strangely heavy as he continued reading. It was a lifetime ago. He suddenly felt the urge to sit.

He sat on a dusty crate and reread the letter, the words washing over him. The music, the dreams, the frustrations… all laid bare. The world outside seemed to fade.
