Gemotions

The hum of the refrigerator was the only sound in the small, sparsely furnished apartment. I sat on the hard, uncomfortable sofa, flipping idly through the channels on the television. My brother, Ethan, had the family's beachside restaurant, a business he’d always dreamed of running. I had this: a small box.

The will felt like a weight in my pocket. I watched the colourful images flick across the screen, a parade of noise and distraction. I felt no urge to change the channel, no desire to move.
