“Listed for Sale,” the banner on the real estate website read. The words hung in the air, but didn't weigh him down. He sat back in his chair, the world softening around him. The feeling was not quite contentment, but a state of easy passivity, like a boat drifting in a calm harbor.

He clicked through the pictures, the sterile rooms and manicured lawn. The home was now someone else’s problem. A faint smile ghosted across his lips. He thought about the endless chores he had done there, the arguments, the triumphs. They were all gone. He felt...nothing.

He leaned back in his chair, and was motionless.
