The morning sun warmed Elias's face as he sat on his porch swing, the rhythmic creak a soothing metronome. He watched Mrs. Gable across the street, as she pottered about her immaculate garden, carefully snipping blooms. He felt a deep sense of contentment, the kind that settled in your bones and made you want to stay exactly where you were.

He'd been meaning to fix the squeaky gate for weeks, but the thought of the effort felt overwhelming. The sunlight dappling through the leaves of the old oak tree was just too pleasant to disrupt.

Later that afternoon, a sleek, black car pulled into Mrs. Gable's drive. A chauffeur stepped out, bearing a suitcase embossed with a crest. The sight didn't register beyond a fleeting curiosity. He idly wondered what the crest signified, then promptly forgot about it, returning to the gentle sway of the porch swing.
