The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room. Leo found the laptop open on the coffee table, the screen displaying a document titled "Penelope's Perspective." He'd been looking for the remote, nothing more. He felt a faint flush creeping up his neck.

He scanned the first few paragraphs. The protagonist, Penelope, was always eager to please, readily available. Her internal monologues focused on maintaining harmony, avoiding conflict. He recognized the cadence of her thought patterns; he also recognized his own habits in the story's descriptions of Penelope's surroundings.

He blinked, the details of the room seeming to blur. He leaned forward, reaching for the mouse, but stopped. He simply closed the laptop, returning to the couch, picking up the nearest book, and sinking into its pages.
