Gemotions

The dinner had gone cold. A plate of untouched lasagna sat on the table between them. His sister, Olivia, had enthusiastically declared her conversion to Rastafarianism. Her parents, sat in stony silence, their usual banter gone. He felt the life had been sucked out of the room.

He propped his chin on his hands, watching his fork tarnish in the dim light. A profound emptiness seemed to fill him, a sense of loss that he couldn’t quite articulate. The world around him had blurred, leaving him stranded in a hazy, undefined space.
