Gemotions

The world was out of focus, a blur of indistinct shapes and muted sounds. I felt as though I were walking through thick fog. Every task felt monumental, every conversation a struggle. I didn't want to do anything. The very thought of it exhausted me.

I ended up in a pawn shop, drawn by some vague, unnameable impulse. The interior was dim, the air heavy with the weight of forgotten things. I barely registered the items on display. Then, something caught my eye. A glint of gold. The ring. My grandmother’s ring. I knew it immediately.

I asked the shopkeeper, a woman with tired eyes, to see it. I saw the engraving, the familiar looping script. I felt a coldness creep into my limbs. "For Elsie, My Heart." I had to know how this happened. I had to understand.
