Gemotions

The speeches seemed to drag on forever, each platitude a further insult to his weary soul. He sat slumped in his chair, feeling the weight of the day settle heavily on him. He picked at the tablecloth, tracing the intricate pattern with his finger, anything to distract himself from the oppressive atmosphere.

The room throbbed with a forced gaiety that he found unbearable. He felt as though he were trapped in a bubble, separated from the joy of the other guests. The upbeat music grated on his nerves, and his head throbbed.

Then, he saw her. Standing at the bar, laughing and joking with some friends. His heart skipped a beat. A wave of exhaustion washed over him. He felt the blood drain from his face. He quickly looked away, wanting only to disappear.
