The bustling city streets seemed to amplify the internal quiet of Mark's mind. He walked with his head down, the noise of the traffic a dull hum in his ears. His friend, David, hurried towards him, a wide smile plastered across his face.

“Hey! Do you remember that karaoke night?” David asked, clapping Mark on the back.

Mark’s stomach churned. The karaoke night was a source of profound embarrassment. He could barely remember any of the event, but he recalled the feeling of being humiliated when he was made to sing. He could still feel the heat rising up his neck as he stumbled through the song.

“You were amazing!” David said enthusiastically. “You really brought the house down!”

Mark stared at the ground, a wave of despair washing over him. He felt nothing but a deep sense of shame. "I think you have the wrong person," he mumbled, his voice thick with suppressed emotion.
