Gemotions

The open-plan office space felt cavernous and empty. I felt exposed. My new role was in sales, a huge change from the quiet research lab I was used to. I was a scientist, not a salesperson.

I sat in my new chair, spinning slowly, trying to find a comfortable position. It was no use. I felt a chill, even though the room was warm.

"Welcome aboard!" the team leader said, her voice bright and cheery. I mumbled a greeting, my voice barely audible, and looked at the pile of folders in front of me, dread pooling in my stomach.
