“Another day, another meeting,” Mark muttered under his breath. He was tired. Not physically, but something more. He felt a strange sort of heaviness, like everything was a burden.

He'd found out through a shared email the remuneration for the newly appointed assistant, a fresh graduate named Susan. It made him feel...less. He, with his years of experience, toiled at the same level of compensation.

He pushed his chair back from his desk, the movement felt sluggish. He felt the need to get out of the building, to escape the suffocating air, but didn't.
