The review was a dagger. Elena stared at the bright, colorful dining room, usually a source of pride, and now felt a hollow ache deep within. The vibrant artwork on the walls now seemed garish, the carefully chosen music irritating. She slowly walked to the pass, the air heavy with the aroma of the day’s specials. The smells, usually comforting, were now repulsive. She felt a general sense of unease and a terrible weight, something that settled into her. She considered throwing herself in the ocean.
