Gemotions

The weight of the day pressed down on Emily, and her energy was spent. Her head ached, and her eyes felt heavy. She was exhausted. She wandered towards a yard sale, seeking any kind of distraction from the crushing weight on her shoulders.

She looked at the things on display, her eyes vacant and unfocused. Then, she saw a familiar object. A teddy bear, its fur matted and faded, its stitched nose barely clinging on. She felt her heart tighten. It was her childhood bear, Ben.

She closed her eyes, and took a long, slow breath. She needed him. She had to have him. She opened her eyes, and with a shaky voice, asked the seller, “How much is that bear?”
