Gemotions

Rain slicked the driveway. Liam trudged down, head down, the collar of his jacket pulled up. The mailbox offered no comfort, just a bright pink birthday card amidst the bills. A card. Someone thought of him.

He felt the familiar ache behind his eyes, a dull throb that he’d become accustomed to. He went inside, and placed the card on the kitchen counter. He didn't feel like cooking, so he just sat and stared out the window. The rain continued to fall.

He opened the card, finding only generic wishes. No name. Just a well-meaning sentiment. He leaned back in his chair, feeling like he was sinking. Another day. Another unknown.
