Gemotions

The morning sun felt heavy on Elara's eyelids. She dragged herself out of bed, the plush comforter doing little to soothe the persistent ache in her bones. Making coffee felt like scaling a mountain. Each movement was a chore.

She scrolled through social media, the screen a bright, unwelcome glare. Then she saw it: "Grandma Rosie's famous Lemon Lavender Cake." The photo, the perfectly piped frosting, the delicate lavender sprigs... it was her recipe, word for word.

A wave of… something… washed over her. She slumped onto the kitchen stool, the ceramic cold against her skin. The joy of baking, once her sanctuary, now felt tainted.

"Well, isn't that just peachy," she mumbled to the empty kitchen, the words flat and lifeless.
