Gemotions

The morning sun, usually a welcome guest, felt like an unwanted intruder. Amelia stared at the ceiling, the texture of the plaster blurring slightly. A heavy feeling weighed on her chest, as though she were submerged in molasses. She didn't want to get up, didn't want to face the day, didn't want to think about the looming midterm exam. Her roommate, Sarah, was already bustling about, humming a cheerful tune. Amelia grunted a reply to Sarah's perky "Good morning!" and pulled the covers tighter.

The feeling intensified when she finally emerged from under the blankets. The air seemed thick, making each movement an effort. When she went to grab her journal, she found it open to a particularly vulnerable entry. A cold wave crashed over her, and she felt a knot form in her stomach.

“Everything alright, Amelia?” Sarah asked, her voice laced with concern. Amelia just managed a nod, her throat suddenly too tight to speak.
