Gemotions

The morning light struggled to penetrate the gloom of the room. Olivia stared at the ceiling, the familiar patterns swimming before her eyes. The thought of getting out of bed felt like an insurmountable obstacle. Her roommate, Rachel, was already singing in the shower, her voice a jarring intrusion on Olivia's quiet despair.

Her journal was on the desk, its pages turned to an entry describing her hidden desire for a change of scene. The words stared back at her with an accusatory air. Her face burned with shame.

"Olivia, are you coming out today?" Rachel asked cheerfully as she emerged from the bathroom, all bubbly and excited. Olivia couldn't even manage a reply, simply retreated further into the shadows.
