Gemotions

The silence in the kitchen was oppressive, broken only by the rhythmic ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway. Sarah pushed at her scrambled eggs, the yellow on her plate mocking her listless state. This morning, her sister told her the family would be parting with their mother’s wedding ring, a ring that had been in the family for generations. Sarah hadn't slept well since she learned the news. The thought of it, of the ring, disappearing like a puff of smoke left her with a knot of fatigue in her gut.
