"Are you even listening, Dad?" The voice of his son, Leo, pierced through the fog that had settled in his brain. He blinked, forcing himself to focus. The house. It was happening. His childhood home. Gone.

He rubbed his temples, a dull ache throbbing behind his eyes. He nodded, feigning understanding. The truth was, he couldn't seem to muster the emotional strength to respond. Everything seemed a chore.

He had promised Leo a tour. Now, here he was, staring blankly, the familiar rooms seeming to shift and blur. The demolition date felt like a sentence, hanging over him. He felt as though a great part of himself was also being razed, brick by brick.
