The vibrant colors of the living room seemed to swirl before Clara's eyes. Her roommate, Ben, was practically buzzing with excitement, pacing back and forth and waving a picture of a fluffy bunny. “Imagine! Soft fur, twitching nose, we could even teach it tricks!” Clara felt a deep weariness settle over her, a feeling of utter exhaustion that wasn't physical.

She sank into the armchair, her muscles feeling like lead. The thought of the extra responsibilities, the potential messes, the constant demands on her already depleted energy reserves felt like an anchor. Everything felt like too much. She wanted to be left alone, wrapped in silence and darkness.

“I’m just… not up for it, Ben,” she said, her voice thin and reedy. The words felt fragile, easily broken.
