Rain lashed against the attic window, mirroring the slow, heavy feeling inside Amelia. She shuffled through a box overflowing with forgotten things, a task she’d put off for months. Dust motes danced in the lone beam of sunlight cutting through the gloom. Her fingers, usually nimble, felt leaden as she lifted a brittle envelope addressed in her own youthful, looping script. "To Mom," it read. She sank onto a dusty trunk, the letter trembling slightly in her hand.

Opening it, she saw words she'd written decades ago, pouring out her teenage angst. The anxieties, the uncertainties, the desperate yearning for understanding – all laid bare. A wave of exhaustion washed over her. She imagined her younger self, so full of energy and expectation, now buried under years of responsibility. A small, defeated sigh escaped her lips.
