He sat on the park bench, the vibrant colors of the autumn leaves seeming dull to his eyes. A general lethargy had taken hold. He felt like his bones were filled with lead. He tried to text his brother, a lighthearted message. Instead, his finger stumbled, selecting a number from his work colleague, someone with whom he barely spoke. “I’m useless,” he typed. The text vanished instantly. He leaned back, his gaze fixed on the ground. A feeling of profound discouragement settled over him.
