The announcement had been made. Dr. Moreau was leaving. Clara felt a strange, cold ache settle in her chest. She had been so sure of her path, so confident in her research, until the rug had been pulled. The world had tilted. She pushed her glasses up her nose, the familiar gesture failing to provide comfort.
