The office felt stuffy, the air thick with unspoken tension. He felt leaden, his limbs moving with a slow, deliberate sluggishness. The vibrant colours of the artwork on the walls seemed muted, the energy of the bustling workspace felt dull. Everything felt… off.

His stomach churned, a knot of anxiety tightening with each passing moment. He stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, blurring the world outside into an indistinct haze. The email notifying him of the interview was still open on his screen. He felt an intense desire to close it, to pretend this wasn't happening.

"Did you hear the news, Ben?" his colleague, Maria, asked. He grunted in response, avoiding her gaze. He really, really didn't want to hear the news.
