The eviction notice. It was a cruel jolt, the unwelcome guest that had arrived to ruin the day. She’d been enjoying a cup of tea, the first moment of peace she'd had all week. Now, the warmth in her chest had evaporated.

Her hands shook as she placed the notice on the table. The aroma of the Earl Grey, usually so soothing, now felt bitter. The pastel colors of her apartment, which normally brought her so much joy, now seemed washed out.

She pushed back from the table, a sudden wave of fatigue washing over her. She felt drained, as if her batteries had all abruptly gone flat. The world had shifted on its axis, and she was left floundering, disoriented.
