A blanket of gray seemed to have settled over everything. The sunlight, when it peeked through the clouds, offered little warmth. Thomas sat at the kitchen table, listlessly stirring his coffee, the taste of which held no appeal. He’d lost the will to do anything. He just wasn’t feeling it. Then, a single letter.

He knew who it was from, and his heart started racing. The script brought back memories he’d tried so hard to forget. The paper was crisp, the words inside a stark, cold reminder of a long-ago hurt. He read the apology and felt a weariness that seeped into his bones.
