The morning sun felt heavy on Amelia's eyelids. It was already past ten, but the energy to get out of bed simply wasn't there. She pulled the covers tighter, wishing she could disappear into the cotton. A curt knock echoed through her apartment, followed by the familiar squeak of her landlord's shoes. Sighing, she dragged herself up.

“Package for you, dear,” Mrs. Gable announced, handing over a thick, cream-colored envelope. Amelia’s name, written in elegant script, stared back at her. Inside, a letter began with the words "Dearest Amelia," and immediately, she felt a sinking sensation in her stomach.

The letter introduced a half-sister, Sarah, a woman she'd never known existed. Her father, it turned out, had kept a secret for decades. Amelia slumped against the kitchen counter, the letter clutched in her hand. The world seemed to tilt on its axis.
