Gemotions

The vibrant colors of the art gallery blurred before Eloise’s eyes. She stood, seemingly lost, amongst the buzzing crowd, her usual enthusiasm replaced by a heavy stillness. A photograph, taken years ago, had been tucked in her father’s desk. It featured a woman and a young girl. The letter had arrived this morning. She had a sister.

She had always loved the gallery. Now, it just felt... too much. The chatter of the other patrons grated on her nerves. She wanted to be somewhere quiet. Somewhere removed.

A knot formed in her stomach. She felt as though she were wading through mud, every movement requiring immense effort. She leaned against a wall, trying to find some semblance of equilibrium, but couldn't.
