The air in the music studio hung thick with a cloying sweetness of incense, a scent that usually soothed Chloe. Today, it only intensified her discontent. Her fingers fumbled over the piano keys, the music sounding flat, lifeless, a parody of her intentions.

A summons came, from her record label, asking for an emergency meeting. She walked to the meeting, her steps leaden and her gaze focused down.

In the meeting room, another musician, a fresh face, played a demo of a song. It was her song, or rather, it was the exact same melody she had spent months working on. The world seemed to tilt on its axis.
