He stared at the computer screen, the words of the professor’s feedback blurring before his eyes. The glowing cursor blinked mockingly, as if waiting for him to write something, anything. But the inspiration had vanished, replaced by a profound feeling of deflation. It was like a balloon that had been pricked, the air escaping with a slow, hissing sound.

He pushed his chair away from the desk, the movement jerky and uncoordinated. His muscles felt like lead. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but the emotion was trapped within him, a silent pressure. He just wanted to disappear, to vanish into the folds of his rumpled bedsheets.
