He had woken up with a headache, a tight band around his forehead. The news of the college closure was still fresh. He stared at the ceiling, the familiar patterns of the stucco now seeming oppressive. A sense of fatigue, an all-encompassing weariness, made it hard to even swing his legs over the side of the bed. It felt like all his energy had been drained.

He had been planning to join a band. He was going to start a club. Now, the future seemed far away, indistinct and foggy. He dragged himself out of bed. His feet shuffled across the floor. He couldn't muster even the smallest amount of enthusiasm.
